I had a brother who was very silly. He would often crack jokes about the most random things such as a leather couch or dumb birds.
I was out on the balcony of our house one time with him as we gazed out to the stars. My brother had a serious tone of voice and spoke to me. "You know," he began, "I've always wanted to be adventurous. I'm tired of living life as it is day in and day out. It gets so dull and boring."
He smiled at me as he continued. "I was thinking about becoming a marine."
"A marine?" I asked him in question. "You're not making another joke, are you?"
"No, I'm being serious," he said. "I've always wanted to go on missions, to go in combat and to put myself in the risk of danger. It's a rush."
"If that's what you want to do then go for it!" I said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
The next day I happened to wake up to find a package on the front porch. It was addressed to my brother and it was sent from the Air Force. "What in the heck?" I asked
